Waiting period
Service time before a new hire becomes eligible.
The waiting period is how long a new employee must be employed before coverage begins — commonly three months, though it can be shorter or waived.
Longer waiting periods reduce cost and administration on high-turnover roles. Shorter ones are a real recruiting advantage.
What this means for a BC plan
In a competitive Vancouver hiring market, a three-month waiting period is increasingly something candidates notice and ask about. Consider whether the saving justifies it for the roles you find hardest to fill.
