Evidence of insurability
Medical information required before certain coverage is issued.
Evidence of insurability is health information an insurer requires before approving coverage above a non-evidence maximum, or for anyone applying outside their initial enrolment window.
It is the control that makes guaranteed coverage possible for everyone else — without it, anti-selection would make voluntary top-ups unaffordable.
What this means for a BC plan
Employees who decline coverage at hire and try to join later will usually face medical underwriting. Making that consequence explicit at enrolment prevents a difficult conversation years afterwards.
